Cause for the Paws GLOW 5K

On Thursday, September 19th, our community celebrated the 26th annual Cause for the Paws 5K put on by the Humane Society of Douglas County, Inc.

This event was a chance for community members and their canine companions to get out and enjoy some early fall weather for a good cause. This year was our 26th annual Cause for the Paws 5K walk/run but it was our very first Glow walk/run! Despite the threatening weather our supporters came out and completed the 5K with or without their pets.

This year we had a great turn out with 92 participants and over 30 dogs and 1 cat in attendance and/or registered! Registration opened at 5 PM and the race started at 6 PM. We did learn that next year we will most likely be starting the race closer to 7 PM. It just didn’t get dark enough for all our fun glow items to show. We received some wonderful comments about our new race route, our new water stations, and that the event took place on a weeknight! We are hopeful that this new twist on a tried and true 5K will grow year over year.

A special thank you to all our generous Sponsors: Essentia Health for answering the call to be our Technology Sponsor this year! VIP in Superior for hosting the 2nd annual Spay-ghetti Dinner that ran in conjunction with our race! To Solid Foundations of Minnesota and the Superior Animal Hospital & Boarding Suites for always being Major Sponsors for this event! To Animal Affair Pet Grooming, Culver’s of Superior, Dan’s Feed Bin, Dreamland Supper Club, Empire Coffee, Fabick Cat, Hammond Steakhouse, Kwik Trip, Mertz Rookey Insurance, Silverwood Petcare, and Smooch-A-Pooch for being our amazing T-shirt Sponsors as well as being wonderful advocates for our shelter pets. Thank you to our In-Kind Sponsors for their tangible donations to our event including Barcodes Plus, the City of Superior, On the Limit, and Super One Foods. We are so thankful for all of your continued support!
